Tacloban City is the first city and also the first to be recognized as highly urbanized city in Eastern Visayas and in Region VIII. It was considered as the capital of the province of Leyte when it was still under the province. Known to be the “Home of the Waraynons” and the “Heart of Eastern Visayas”. The city of Tacloban is the gateway of Region VIII because of its large population and being in the center of the whole nation.
